"The week's drumming tuition just seemed to fly by. Mabeth had taught us, and more importantly empowered us, to play as a powerful unified group. Her coaching and encouragement, coupled with her infectious enthusiasm had transformed our initial disparity of skills and confidence into a well blended
Latin percussion group in which each and every member played an equally important role. Four short days later we were ready for our concert performance in front of a full house of invited guests. In my opinion, and as echoed by our audience’s enthusiastic applause, we were fantastic. Mabeth Ciurans has a valuable talent that she freely and passionately utilises to build team through the medium of Latin percussion drumming. And she’s heaps of fun too!

"I love our drumming lessons with Mabeth - we always have fun, and learn something new every time. After our lessons, I feel relaxed, energised and ready to face the rest of my day at the computer! Mabeth has a great ability to push us along at just the right pace - never boring, but always achievable"

Frances Krsinich

"Mabeth... paces learning to the level / ability of each person, whether in a small group or a large workshop, using humour to challenge and inspire"

Rose Jones

"Her classes are one of the highlights of my week"

inspiring and entertaining

For those who have always wanted to 'beat it out'...
do it on the drums!

A hands-on opportunity to explore playing hand drums and percussion instruments in a fun, supportive environment.

Do you have to be musical?

You don’t need any musical knowledge or experience to take part in and enjoy our drumming sessions. Just a will to give it a go.

You may discover unexpected skills – in yourself, as well as those around you.

How does it work?

Whether you are an individual or a group, you simply book in a time to meet for a first session. In this session we will work out what kind of learning schedule suits you. It may include:

  • an introduction to different drums and percussion instruments
  • basic music theory and reading rhythms
  • ideas for variations, exploring improvisation
  • performance opportunities
  • learning how to play basic and advanced rhythms

A drumming session can take place at our music studio in Wellington or at a mutually agreed venue. ‘Hands on’ can provide the instruments. They include conga, bongo, surdo, timba and djembe drums, and a wide range of percussion instruments. You are also welcome to bring your own. Sessions can last from 45 minutes to two hours.

Your needs, your pace.

Prices are individually assessed depending on the number of participants in your group, your preferred location and time frame.
